No, it’s not. It’s a dishonest line. We’ve increased the minimum wage in the past during times of economic prosperity. The reason why Obama and the governors want an increase in minimum wage is so more people can provide for their families and themselves and not have to be on the very government assistance that Jindal derides. Even big companies like Wal-Mart are coming out in favor of the increase. What does that tell you? Opposition to this isn’t about companies being able to afford it. It’s about refusal to believe that employees should get decent wages.

If Wal-Mart wants to increase the wages of its workers, good, more power to ‘em! But that doesn’t mean the increase must be or should be mandated by law.
