If your dog is itching too, which is common in August, the loss of appetite might just be an allergic reaction from overproduction of histamines. Check for fleas, ticks and mites. In dogs allergic reactions frequently lead to stomach ulcers. The good news is that Benadryl is very safe for use in dogs and helps a lot.

The usual dosage for treating dogs is 1 mg/lb every 8 hours (three times daily) but can be doubled to 2mg/lb if needed.

If this works examine your dog closely, if you don’t notice any other symptoms like coughing, pale gums, lumps, diarrhea, etc you might be able to put off the vet visit until your next scheduled one if your finances are tight.

Sick dogs also love them some plain steamed / boiled chicken breast, mix it with steamed rice.
