I don’t see the problem with Mitt’s remarks, as the Palestinians clearly have a set of severe cultural problems that Israel does not have. If they find being told that offensive, then they do. That doesn’t make saying it a ‘gaffe’.

Fine. But don’t turn around and talk about how drive and individual achievement determines success and failure in life. Either starting conditions and environment matter or they don’t. Being born wealthy and in a wealthy, technologically advanced society confers definite, unearned advantages.
