Heh, it does look like the Gadsden flag from a distance. The writing is a very stylized Kufic script, which I find pretty much impossible to decipher. (I love looking at Arabic & Persian calligraphy, but can’t read 99% of it.)

That said, the yellow flag has me very confused. The photo originates from Getty Images and according to the photographer:

Here’s a ginormous version if you want to see it better.

Here’s my attempt to isolate the flag and remove the distortions caused by the angle/wind. It’s not great, but it’s better (and it’s not something I want to spend too much of my Saturday working on).

The weird part(s) is that the Hezbollah is yellow & green, but that’s not the standard version—that version of the arm with the gun, while similar to Hezbollah, is actually the seal of the Revolutionary Guards (at least in part). Here’s a side-by-side comparison of the two flags from the IDF blog. But wait, it gets better! //

There’s also a new group in Gaza called Hesn:

Here’s the Hezbollah flag next to the Hesn flag. In some photos, like this one, the Hesn flag is yellow instead of orange.

Here are all four flags/logos next to each other. As you can see, the one from the (Getty) photo, while similar, doesn’t actually match any of them. You guess is as good as mine regarding who it might belong to.

Charles should be posting a fresh thread in 5… 4… 3… //

Happy Eid, CL! Hope you happily chowing down…
