The rapid implosion of the Afghanistan military has sort of been blowing some holes in the recently established Republican narrative of 300,000 brave Afghani soldiers who would totally be able to hold their own against the Taliban but for lack of US air support. The biggest mistake during the withdrawal appears to have been not blowing up all the bridges and highways to block the army’s retreat.

Frankly, though, I really can’t blame anyone for not wanting to be the last soldier to die for a lost cause.
