Back about 15-20 years ago there was a spate of razor blades in the apples/ tainted candy/ etc that put a damper on Halloween door to door. It’s morphed more into church/ school Trunk or Treats where you know everyone or small house parties or just going to relatives houses

Most of that was just urban legend stuff, records only show about 80 cases of tampering (pins, razors) and none of poisoning. Only 80 cases over how many years, in a country with a population our size? Your kid has much more chance of being struck by lightening while trick or treating than getting tampered candy I would think.
