Dinner was usually a packet of ramen noodles, they used to be seven for a buck, eight when on sale. I usually refined them with eggs or cabbage or tofu or something to make them stretch.

I recall eating Cup O Noodles quite a bit in my college years at times when I only had access to hot water. Also very popular if you had access to a fridge (to store milk and butter/margarine), stove and some pots and pans was generic mac and cheese mix since you could get those five for a buck at the local Giant Eagle.
