James Byrd
Matthew Shepard
When Byrd was murdered, George W. Bush condemned the act immediately and ensured the racists who committed it got a fair trial, thus ensuring they would not escape justice for their crimes. One of the scumbags who killed Byrd has since been executed for it, another is on death row, and the third got life in prison. I’d say justice was served in their case. It did not bring the man they killed back, but justice can never do that. What it can and did do was to make clear that Texas would not tolerate such acts of evil and would in fact kill those who perpetrated them.
