Nuclear fission was codiscovered by Lise Meitner, who was female, of Jewish heritage and of German nationality. She ultimately ended up in the United States, but she was, like so many other women scientists of the period, cheated out of her Nobel Prize. (Rosalind Franklin and Jocelyn Bell come to mind here.)
