Trying to stifle hate by stifling speech just doesn’t work. But I have to wonder if the real motivation behind these laws is fear. Fear that if the euros allowed the haters to speak freely that the hate would get out of hand because they fear it would appeal to too many since the fundamental problem is europe has not dealt with the underlying issues that spark the hate in the first place. Europe obviously has issues that the public is beginning to get angry about. Perhaps the authorities fear the scapegoating hatred would just be too easy to slip back into, and they see restricting speech as a mechanism to control it.

It’s not right, but I wonder if that’s a motivation.
