re: #165 SanFranciscoZionist

My historical grievances against the Spanish people have been revealed.

(I’ve learned that it is OK to hate Muslims forever because they conquered parts of Spain in the Middle Ages, however, the Expulsion and the Inquisition are evidently just things I should get over. Collateral damage. It was a long time ago. No big deal.)

Just to nitpick a bit —it’s a very big stretch to say that Muslims conquered parts of Spain (and Portugal) during the 8th century. The Muslim campaign is usually referred to as the conquest of the Iberian Peninsula simply because there was no such thing as “Spain”, and there wouldn’t be for centuries to come. The most consensual “birth” of Spain is usually placed at the 15th century, with the unification of Castilla and Aragn. The use of the modern word “Espaa” can be traced to 12th century documents, but that’s it.
