yeah, that’s what i was afraid of. are there relatively civilized ‘burbs, or does it transition from city to boondocks? my kids are elementary-school age, so I don’t mind a rough city if there are a few close townships to choose from (e.g. other than the weather, we did fine in/around Cleveland)

Plenty of burbs in the South. We like our cities sprawled out. It gets too damn hot to be that close to anyone!
