Aaaand—apparently she was wrong. I looked him up: Chick Sale (no “s”) was not Soupy Sales’ father. Oh, well….

He took his stage surname from Sale, according to Wikipedia, as his earlier radio name, Hines, sounded too much like the food brand.

I didn’t realize (or had forgotten) that Soupy had been on the air since the early ’50s. I knew him only from the WNEW-TV show of the mid-’60s.
