Your lower-middle-class wingnut, say, insisting that we can deregulate coal mines because the market will handle it, does not quite understand that in the Brave Old World, HE works that coal mine, and so do his kids. He thinks he’s protecting himself so he can move up. Rejects the idea that he’s actually sawing out the floorboards under his feet.
