A lesson that China once learned, then forgot. There are no equivalents here for Social Security or Medicare, much less a national health system, which means those only children of aging parents are really feeling the squeeze. It’s called the 1-2-4 problem: one kid, two parents, four grandparents. So long as the Chinese economy keeps chugging along and people can find jobs, there will be little unrest. If the economy tanks, as some experts are predicting, there are going to be millions of young people out of work. They may take to the streets as the people did in Hong Kong.
