I remember going through bound sets of LIFE magazine in the college library when I should have been studying. in 1949 you could get a 17” (round) black-and-white (of course) TV for $499. The BLS says that’s $4,921.27 today.

Having a color TV was a big deal in the 1950s and ’60s. They were pricey monsters.
