The two great world wars happened because the sovereignty of small nations wasn’t respected. NATO gives Georgia, Ukraine, the Baltics, etc some insurance that Serbia and Czechoslovakia did not have in 1914 & 1938.

I thought that WW1 started because Russia stood up for Serbia and GB stood up for Belgium…

The point is that the we are still dealing with the dissolution of the USSR much as Europe in 1914 found itself dealing with the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire.
