Speaking of the hernia… wanted to re-emphasize that when I recommend doing “crunches” that I do not mean that which most people think of when doing “crunches.” Too many people think the goal is to wrap the body forward. That is not good. Rather, the idea is to lift the upper torso to the ceiling as the belly button is pulled backwards to the spine.
