welll…i dunno. at the risk of getting deeper on you (don’t want to cast off my shallow republican exterior;), i tend to vacillate between relativism and objectivism.

on one hand, if it doesn’t stimulate you, i don’t have an issue with your deciding that an item isn’t really “art” to you.

on the other hand, i think that “art” should be skillful, emotionally powerful, or both (if possible). the ‘emotionally powerful’ bit is where it gets relativistic to me.

i need another drink…

But I don’t think art need be skillful, we’d be weeding out a lot of outsider work that’s quite compelling!

And yeah, emotionally powerful is so relative.
