I went into Gary only once. My mom had to see a specialist up there for something, and there was absolutely no way she was going into downtown Gary alone, even in the middle of the day. True, I probably wouldn’t have been much help in a fight, but at least I look intimidating.

My home county used to be run the same way, elections were in the bag long before any votes were cast. About 10 years ago there was a federal investigation which brought some g-men to town. This county was so dirty a local cop thought it was a good idea to pull a gun on a federal agent in order to try to stop him from interviewing locals. Amazingly big balls and little brains.
