So Officer Wilson drives up and says ‘Get the fuck off the street’

Brown says ‘We’re just going over here, we’ll be off in a second’ or some iteration of that.

And very shortly thereafter, Brown is going for Wilson’s gun while Wilson is still in his SUV.

Quite a chain of events even before the first shot was fired.

I’m going to guess that Wilson, having had weeks to craft his story, told the GJ that he’d heard the radio report, concluded Brown was responsible for the robbery, and confronted him with the intent to arrest. Brown freaked out, pushed him back in his SUV as he tried to exit, and proceeded to attack him with the intent to prevent his arrest.

In other words, Brown went from “strong-arm robbery” to “attempted murder” without any stages in-between.
