That isn’t necessarily true. Resources are not unlimited, and getting tens of thousands of people off the planet is going to be very expensive even with matter/antimatter engines.

Who said you need to get tens of thousands of people off the planet any time soon? That would be absurd. We need to develop the tech to trivialize getting there first. We need A.I., materials tech, energy generation tech, etc, etc.

We are going to end up in space if we don’t kill ourselves as a species, eventually. Not all of us, of course, but people breed quite rapidly.
