I don’t know a ton about the standoff, but I do know that it’s totally standard policy for law enforcement to try to arrest people away from their homes, because that’s the time they’re most vulnerable and least likely to have access to, oh, shitloads of guns.

However, maybe they thought that he had standing orders for everyone to kill themselves or something if he got arrested. I don’t know. I think it’s obvious ATF and the FBI wish they could have gotten a better outcome, but in the end the real villain is still Koresh. The FBI and ATF may—and again, I don’t know, because I have no idea how to do the kind of shit they do—have fucked it up, but that’s not malice. Koresh was the madman asshole that started the whole deal.
