Like using Huckleberry Finnin a classroom where there were black students? I think one could manage the Indian chapters easily enough (e.g. this was three-year-old Laura’s view of a war in progress, in which she was on the wrong, though winning, side).

Huck Finn would not be telling the AA students anything they don’t already know. Some schools use expurgated versions which remove the n* word. Most objections to the book center around that word, not necessarily about the portrayal of Jim and Huck’s conflicted friendship with him. That said, a white teacher would have to be very careful in approaching the book, perhaps more so than an AA teacher.

Fact is, there’s always someone who can find something objectionable in nearly every book used in schools.

Speaking of which, has anybody else seen the remake of Fahrenheit 451? I was wondering what your reactions were.
