The worst thing about cash for clunkers is the deliberately destruction of the clunkers. In the third world, any operating car, no matter how old, is immensely valuable to impoverished people.

We are blind to this enormous poverty. It is both arrogant and selfish for us to destroy assets that could enrich poor people, rather than sharing them by putting them on freighters for shipment to impoverished third world countries.

Are the Democrats stupid, or merely callous? Obama’s half-brother still is living in a shack in Kenya without plumbing or electricity, correct? What would a clunker mean to him?
