Not useless. He designed an excellent saddle and was responsible for getting the Union army’s training up to speed. He was not a good _combat_ commander, though, and it was a disaster when he tried to be. But a good example of the Peter Principle…
Many years ago I used a McClellan saddle. They are not designed for riders who might have a “chunky butt”. You have to be a bean pole to be even somewhat comfortable.
