i went to my hometown church on father’s day and after church the old women were talking about how shocked they are about the current racial climate in this country. some of them graduated from segregated high schools and their children were the first integrated generation. the ugliness from those time is happening again right before their eyes and they are sickened by it. they always pray for the safety of obama and his family. they believe it is by the grace of god that he has survived this long amidst the kind of hate directed at him.

I don’t think it can get that bad again—there was a lot of widespread shallow racism, and less of the deep, murderous, kind. We can’t even tell what the ratio is today, let alone 60 yrs ago. Here in AL, the kids just seem to be a lot less infected.
