The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally kicked off yesterday, with many of its average middle-age participants no doubt following in a few weeks.
I decided therefore to get informed about the town of Sturgis. The place is actually quite small, 6627 people in the last census, and the giant rally accounts for something like 90% of local revenue. The total economic impact is estimated at $800 million for the state as a whole, which is close to a grand per person. This bit of census data jumped out at me:

The racial makeup of the city was 93.9% White, 0.2% African American, 2.3% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.6% from other races, and 2.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.6% of the population.
