re: #284 godfrey

Why is it that our politicians are so utterly incapable of producing this level of presentation?

That’s a puzzle. Being a successful politician means knowing what NOT to say more than knowing what to say. That’s why they are reduced to pointless speeches full of predictable platitudes. They are terrified of saying some terrible truth the voters don’t want to hear. Or worse, that the politicians don’t want the voters to hear.

For example, could you imagine Obama saying this:

“We Democrats screwed up when we forced banks to give subprime mortgages to people who could not afford to meet the payments leading to the collapse of the global credit market”

Or would John McCain ever say,

“We Republicans screwed up by deregulating the financial industry to the point where highly leveraged credit swaps and hedge funds spread the mortgage crises into a truly global economic disaster.”

No, I don’t believe we will ever hear that kind of honesty from our politicians,
