The whole point of TPP was that CHINA ISN’T A PART OF IT!! It’s to allow us to have continuing priority in those dozen nations that without TPP they’ll fall into China’s sphere of influence.

Exactly. That and the fact that a lot of the non-manufacturing heartland was for TPP - more markets for agricultural products for instance.

I’ll say it before, I’ll say it again - I think TPP got all the angst about trade agreements projected on it, rather than being evaluated on its merits. If copyrights and the ability of companies to sue countries was the big issue for you, OK, but if the main objection was “NAFTA bad therefore no TPP!” the point was totally missed.
