re: #320 Indy GOP Refugee

What might be your best argument that putting policy/ethics/ability to lead further down the criteria than family ties helps get a better President?

I haven’t seen an awful lot of evidence that the people being touted are being touted because they have good policy/ethics/ability to lead.

What they have is name recognition, which is worth a lot when it comes to getting elected but actually isn’t nearly as important when you are talking about criteria for being a good elected official.

I considered and voted against Hillary in the 2008 primary because I decided I liked Obama better as a candidate, based on those policies, etc. I’ll vote for her this time around if it means keeping the (current) Republican policies out of the WH. I absolutely won’t vote for Bush (or any other Republican) for the same reason.

I think it’s kind of disingenuous to pretend that these folks who just happen to be related to previous presidents represent the absolute best either party has to offer in terms of candidates and we should pretend that they’re not being seriously considered based in part on the name recognition they bring to the table.
