Since I am living perfectly happily without religious faith, I definitely did not intend it that way. I was referring more to emotions than religion, and SidewaysQuark was doing the opposite, I think.

I was more trying to comment on the de facto validity of faith as a concept than commenting specifically on religion.

Arguing from consequence is an easy trap for anyone on either side of the issue to fall into. If faith is something we need to survive, that doesn’t infer that the presumptions made by faith are true. On the other hand, if the presumptions made by faith aren’t true, that doesn’t infer that faith isn’t something we need to survive. Both atheists and believers make the mistake of arguing in this way.
