My parents are not from NC. My father was born to sharecropping farmers in Bumfarkansas, and my mother to, er, what whites call the help in south central Florida. They met in upstate NY, and moved to SoCA in the mid 60s right after marrying.

Better opportunities for young Black professionals, and all that. Once you got past the “No Blacks” signs on the rentals.
