It never ceases to amaze me how people who are targets of bigotry themselves will sometimes jump right in and do the same to others. Go figure.

He seems like an old fellow. Likely grew up knowing little about Islam, only to have to burst into his consciousness via terrorism late in life. In a case like that, you can see how someone could be hostile to what he likely sees as a foreign and dangerous force in his community.

Also, signs like that might have a planned secondary effect of mollifying wingnuts to the Latinos hoisting said signs, or at least to aim anger away from Latinos.
