It has - to a sometimes laughable extent.

I remember the BBC banning a Pogues’ song “Fairytale of New York” becuase it contains the word “faggot”.

The song portrays a drunken argument between a low-life and his wife, during which she hurls the invective at him. What could that possibly have to do with gay-bashing?
