I am still amazed Morocco did that. That was practically asking to be colonized, and yet, they did it anyway. That took some cojones on the part of Muhammad IV.

This dovetails into why I don’t like Free Trade. On one hand, there needs to be adjustible trade tariffs to account for currency and economic manipulation by various states.

On the other hand, I think in case of nations need to be pulled up, or for loyal allies, the trade terms should be such that you are encouraging business to make American goods in those nation. Morocco is not too poor, but they lag behind the rest of North Africa because of a lack of resources. Plugging them into our economy would be a massive boost. Encourage companies to move their factories to Morocco under a special trade agreement, that also covers worker safety and wage laws.
