There’s a new bike company that’s started operating in St. Paul called LimeBikes, and they’ve dumped bikes all over the city (blocking sidewalks, falling into the street, whatever, they don’t care).

They put one of them in my front lawn because I’m on a corner lot. Yesterday evening I dragged it across the street to the lot of a warehouse, and the bike started beeping and yelling at me that if I didn’t pay to ride it, it was going to call the police. I hope it did and LimeBikes gets charged for a false police report. Today the bike is gone.

I’m all for these kind of bikes when they have specific docking stations, but this thing where what seems like hundreds of bikes are just dumped off anywhere is urban pollution. I haven’t seen anyone riding one yet.

A lot of people are confused, thinking ‘bikes are good. More bikes will make everything better.’ The reality is, ‘people who use bikes are good. More bike use will make some things better.’
