My favorite scene is the barroom brawl, when the four punks come in and pick on Duvall. The kid is freaking out, worried about his uncle, but the other uncle says ‘just watch’. I must have seen this movie five times.

Too true. I’ve noticed that before. A liberal friend is someone that wouldn’t help you in a bar fight. They’ll just watch and “discuss” the matter at a later date.
