Dean’s character may have been fighting his bisexual impulses (he had two parents, even if Dad was emasculated), but Mineo’s character had no parents; he was tended by a female maid, another indication that he was “that way.” Mineo had to go so that True Heterosexuality (and, of course, Love) could triumph.
Next you’ll be telling us that Fred Mertz was a “femme”, and Ethel was a “diesel dyke”.
