They didn’t enter into a contract freely and then want to change the rules.

If you read the article, you’ll see that both of them worked, and the mother’s insurance was the family insurance (because it was better than the options for the father). After the baby was born, they decided the mother should stay home full time with her, because she was special needs and it would be the best thing for the baby. Then they couldn’t find a private insurer to insure them.

They made choices. Those choices had consequences.

Do you think those are reasonable choices for a family to be faced with?

Yes.

I am not saying that the outcome is pleasant in this case. The Demko’s are in a very unpleasant situation.

Are you more free or less free if the state can compel you to be financially liable for the choices that the Demko’s have made?
