My parents were mere pikers at a mere 44 years. My mother died first, and it took my dad two years to get over it; but he only had another six months after that, which I think is very sad. On the bright side, he went suddenly, in his sleep, and had played a little golf only two days before.

I have to go back to my Great Great Grandfather to find a ‘died within a year’ pair in my family. That was in 1900. Everyone else lasted years, sometimes decades after their spouse passed.
