No, it didn’t. But panics can be countered in time and actions taken to prevent their recurrence. The 24-hour news cycle is here to stay. We can bemoan its existence, but it will survive dislike because it bring in more viewers and that what really counts for news organizations. A flash back quote Bernie Goldberg used in Bias illustrates the point:
