Yeah but he was rightly discredited because of it, and it vindicated his critics like DuBois. When that news hit the Black press, Garvey got dropped like a hot potato. His influence didn’t stop, e.g. Malcolm X, but he really mopped himself into a corner with that one.

interesting stuff…DuBois and his early activism…I have property in Jamaica and got into that stuff tracing the roots of the Rastas…I’ve forgotten much of what I learned, I admit
