re: #30 Blind Frog Belly White

My ride. I built this baby back in 2007, to distract me from the threat of layoffs as the company I worked for imploded. Columbus MAX steel frame from the early 1990s, their strongest tubeset for big, strong riders. Italian lugged construction, with pantographed for crown, brake bridge, and rear dropouts. Chrome plated chainstay. Had it painted Ferrari red. Built it up with the best components I could afford - Chris King headset, Phil Wood bottom bracket, Campagnolo Chorus kit. Custom wheels with White Industries hubs, Sapim spokes, and Velocity Fusion rims.

For the last 8 years, she’s my go-to bike. No flex in the bottom bracket when standing on it. Corners like she’s on rails. Descends like a falcon diving on prey.

Climbs like a 22# bike ridden by a 225#, 57 year old guy. Can’t have everything.

I named her DREADNOUGHT. Seemed appopriate for a battleship of a bike.

BEAUTIFUL Bike. I love the Velocity Fusion rims. I made a pair up for my touring recumbent, another set for my “fast ‘bent”. Great components, but you’re missing the authentic chrome spoke protector. :-)

Only thing lacking would be a set of the Campy Delta brakes… but then again, you probably view the ability to stop as being more important than the looks.

who’s now wondering what he ever did with that Phil Woods bottom bracket he’s got somewhere in a box of parts.
