I don’t think it’s a problem with Javascript itself — disabling Javascript fixes the problem because embedded tweets are rendered with Javascript. Twitter has recently changed their embedding code substantially and embedded tweets now use much more memory than they used to.

I can’t fathom from a technical standpoint why this would be necessary.
