We have both, but our brown bears are more “brown bears” and not “grizzly bears”. One of my brothers-in-law saw a black bear in his yard when he came home from a late day on the job. Me, I’ve never seen one loose in the wild, yet.

Come across the Mississippi then, we have plenty of black bear around here. They don’t tend to cause trouble but they are over populated and get like to rummage through peoples trash. They’re most dangerous in the fall when fattening up for winter - if they smell easy food, they’ll go for it. A boy scout got mauled a couple of years back over a candy bar. But other than that, even sows with cubs are not as dangerous as browns out west.
