Bitcoin is a massive energy hog, causing significant environmental harms.

For instance, in the Finger Lakes of NY, a gas fired power plant had to be run more often to power a server farm doing bitcoin, and it also resulted in damage to one of the lakes, raising its water temp significantly. Everywhere that they do these server farms, the energy use goes off the charts, and causes environmental damage with no significant benefit to the local economy. Heck, server farms can be extremely loud with the fans and cooling systems needed to keep the servers from melting down.
