Yep. We sit at the precipice, and when this kind of sentiment finds itself well-represented in the mainstream, we have really fallen down the rabbit hole. Everything up to now has been foreplay, and it is still possible to back away from full-on “culture war”. (i.e., nuveau-Nazism)

The dog whistles are starting to become unnecessary on the fringe, and it’s filtering it’s way through the echo chamber to the mainstream. If the GOP doesn’t come down on it, and hard, the GOP may as well consider itself a revolutionary splinter group. It’s not quite too late for a “at long last, have you left no sense of decency” moment, but we are getting too close to the jump-off point for comfort.

The right needs a new W. Buckley, badly. It’s time to toss the birthers, birchers, oath keepers, teabaggers, etc. out of the tent before it becomes thoroughly their tent. I won’t hold my breath, because I don’t see anyone with both the clout and the spine to pull it off.
