re: #330 lawhawk

Stores provide certain goods and services for sale.

I don’t go into a bakery asking for Craftsman tools.

I don’t go into a supermarket asking for men’s suits.

I don’t go into a wedding dress shop asking for kosher food.

The businesses sell particular goods and services. That’s up to them.

What isn’t up to them is to deny the sale of the goods or services they provide to someone who is different based on race, religion, sexual identity, gender, or other factors. That’s discriminatory.

And enforcing laws that prohibit those kinds of discriminatory actions isn’t infringing on the religious beliefs of the persons involved. Religion doesn’t give a fallback position to discriminate.

Besides, swap out black for gay in the cake scenario and you see what we’re talking about:

I’m not going to sell you a wedding cake from my bakery because you’re black gay.

See how that works? Apparently the right wingers who are supporting this kind of behavior don’t, or think that the Obama Administration is waging war on religion, ignoring that the government is protecting the rights of everyone - including the religious rights of the consumer by prohibiting the discriminatory acts.

Exactly.
