bah. By that tortured logic, a grocery store that takes food stamps is accepting public funds, or if my friend on welfare paid for gas after I gave him a ride to a job interview, I’m accepting public funds and everything I do reflects on the taxpayer.

I’m generally against these endless student loans and grants because they contribute to the spiral of tuition increases, but just taking them doesn’t make one an agent of the feds.
(full disclosure, I took them when offered when younger)

Ahh, but the grocery store isn’t purging the ideologically questionable, nor is it making representations to the Dept. of Ed. (or, in this case, Agriculture) that is an ideologically and religiously neutral institution in its policies.
